REQUIREMENTS FOR OBTAINING AN ORDINARY PASSPORT
To apply for an ordinary passport, Somali citizens must adhere to the following formal requirements:
- 1. Formal Written Request Letter: A signed and well-written request letter must be submitted as part of the application process. The letter should clearly state the applicant’s intention to obtain an ordinary passport and provide any necessary supporting information.
- 2. Two Passport Photos: Two recent, high-quality passport-sized photographs are required. The photos should meet the specific guidelines set by the passport issuing authority, such as size, background color, and facial expression.
- 3. Birth Certificate: An original birth certificate issued by the local government must be provided. The birth certificate serves as a vital document to establish the applicant’s identity and date of birth. For individuals residing outside the country, an original birth certificate issued by the Somali embassy or consulate in their country of residence is acceptable.
- 4. Certificate of Non-Criminal Record: A valid Certificate of Non-Criminal Record obtained from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is mandatory. This document assures that the applicant has no criminal record and is essential for ensuring the integrity of the passport issuance process.
- 5. Personal and Document Verification: Applicants are required to undergo a thorough personal interview and document examination process to verify their identity and eligibility for an ordinary passport. This verification process is designed to maintain the security and authenticity of the passport issuance system.
- 6. Payment Receipt: A valid receipt confirming payment of the prescribed passport application fee must be presented. The payment receipt serves as evidence of compliance with the financial obligations related to the passport application process.
REQUIREMENTS FOR EXPIRED/PAGE RUN OUT FOR ORDINARY PASSPORT
Somali Citizens are entitled to apply for the renewal of an ordinary passport, by fulfilling the following prescribed requirements:
- 1. Formal Written Request Letter: Prepare and submit a signed request letter expressing the need for passport renewal or reprint.
- 2. Two Passport Photos: Provide two recent passport-sized photographs that meet the specified requirements.
- 3. Expired or Depleted Passport: Submit the original or a copy of the expired or depleted passport, which serves as proof of previous passport issuance.
- 4. Birth Certificate: Include the original birth certificate issued by the local government. For applicants residing outside the country, an original birth certificate issued by the Somali embassy or consulate in their country of residence will be accepted.
- 5. Certificate of Non-Criminal Record: Obtain a valid Certificate of Non-Criminal Record from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Somalia. Alternatively, an equivalent document issued by Somalia Embassies or Consulates may be provided.
- 6. Personal and Document Verification: Successfully complete the designated verification process, which involves a personal interview and examination of relevant documents to ensure the accuracy of your identity and eligibility.
- 7. Passport Payment Receipt: Present a valid receipt as proof of payment for the prescribed passport application fee.
- NB: The passports with less than six months of validity or depleted pages are eligible for renewal. It is important to emphasize that Somali passports cannot be renewed by stamping; a full renewal with a new booklet is always required. Obeying to these requirements will facilitate the smooth renewal process, ensuring that Somali citizens have valid and up-to-date passports for their travel needs.
LOST PASSPORT
Somali citizens are entitled to apply for the renewal of their lost passport, subject to meeting the established requirements.
- 1. Formal Written Request Letter: Submit a signed request letter outlining the circumstances of the lost passport and the need for a replacement.
- 2. Two Passport Photos: Provide two recent passport-sized photographs that meet the specified requirements.
- 3. Police report letter: Obtain a valid of police report letter from the police station in the jurisdiction where the passport was lost. This document serves as proof of the lost passport incident.
- 4. Waiting Period: Please note that the process of tracking the lost passport will take up to one month (30 days). This timeframe allows for thorough investigation and verification.
- 5. Birth Certificate: Include the original birth certificate issued by the local government. For applicants residing outside the country, an original birth certificate issued by the Somali embassy or consulate in their country of residence will be accepted.
- 6. Certificate of Non-Criminal Record: Obtain a valid Certificate of Non-Criminal Record from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Somalia. Alternatively, an equivalent document issued by Somalia Embassies or Consulates may be provided.
